Whether they are refugees fleeing from #warfare, or individuals devastated by #naturaldisasters, their stories break our hearts. Despite the anguish they endure, their narratives often become powerful reminders of resilience, and unwavering hope can be found amidst life’s darkest moments.
On the anniversary of the Turkey–Syria earthquakes, Wafaa, a teacher at the center, delivered a heartfelt speech to students who suffered from the tragedy. She reassured them that they were part of The Centre for World Citizens Family and they were cherished and supported, offering a sense of belonging.❤️
That evening, after the speech, Ghazal and Jana’s mother, whose children attended the Arabic class, promptly invited Wafaa to visit their home. Located not far from The Centre for World Citizens, their dwelling appeared a bit worn down, and upon arrival, their mother, seated in a wheelchair, warmly greeted Wafaa with a smile. 😊
They lived in Syria but were forced to flee their home after the outbreak of the war, leaving Idlib to start a new life in Turkey. The mother recounted, “At 4:17 am, the house began to tremble violently, the roof and walls collapsing around me, and I lost consciousness in an instant.” 🚑 She continued, “It took me 5 days to regain consciousness, attempting to move my body, but I couldn’t. I cried out and screamed, yet my efforts were in vain, as I could no longer move.” 🤕
Nevertheless, in the face of her family’s suffering and her profound sense of powerlessness, this mother refused to surrender. With remarkable courage, she confronted the formidable challenges of life, searching for a glimmer of hope and purpose for herself and her children. 💡 Her resilience and unwavering determination were truly inspiring.
Wafaa showed love and support to the mother and her children, assuring them that The Centre for World Citizens would stand by them, providing the necessary assistance they required, including emergency shelter 🏠, vocational training 💼, and children’s education 📚.
Together, we will be facing the sorrows of enduring hardships, assisting them in reconstructing their lives. May they discover joy and tranquility in the days to come, holding on to hope and courage. 🎈
