#Poverty is an anguish to the soul, shrouding families in gloom. When extreme poverty is coupled with the burdens of #disease and #bereavement, the situation becomes even more dire. Imagine a family simultaneously enduring these three tragedies. This is the harsh reality faced by Judie, Leen, and Limar. 👩👧👧
Diagnosed with liver #cirrhosis at the age of two, Limar has suffered incredible hardships since. 🛌 Most of her time is spent in hospitals, and as her health deteriorates, doctors recommend a liver transplant #surgery, 🏥 but the frequent post-operative checks bring immense psychological and financial pressure to both the patient and caregiver.
Limar’s mother, shattered by her daughter’s illness, tirelessly shuttles her between #Reyhanlı and #Maraş every month, leaving little time to tend to Judie and Leen’s schooling. They bear the common plight of the Syrian people: slaughter, destruction, displacement, and a hard life. 🔥 This family’s homeland was consumed by war, their father was tragically lost, and their mother widowed.
Faced with this sudden upheaval, they hastily fled, seeking refuge in Turkey. However, this new life didn’t bring tranquility. At 15, Judie and 13-year-old Leen are still in school, grappling with #language barriers and #living expenses. The family cannot afford basic clothing 👕, #transportation 🚗, #school supplies 📚, and food needs 🍲.
Despite receiving 3,600 Turkish Lira monthly assistance from the #TurkishRedCrescent 🛩️, Limar’s family struggles to make ends meet, with most of it going towards #rent, leaving little for living expenses. To compound their misfortune, fate cruelly bestowed Limar, the youngest daughter, with an incurable illness. Limar’s mother loves each of her children deeply, she hopes for Limar’s swift recovery 🌹, so that she can have more time and energy to be with her other children.
This is a tragic family tale, narrating the triple hardship brought by poverty, disease, and bereavement. Limar and her family have endured immense trials, and Taiwan Center hopes this story will draw more compassionate attention and assistance to provide the support Limar’s family needs. 🙏
